Paddy (Micheal Patrick Kelly) was born 5th December 1977, the only Kelly to actually be born in Ireland. Because of this, he got a typical Irish name, Patrick.
Paddy was only 5 years old when his mother died, and his songs like 'Mama' and 'Calling Heaven' are devoted to and about her. He said in an interview that he can well remember how they had picnics together every Saturday in Spain on the bank of a big river. He also described his mother as 'tender' and 'loving.' "When i was ill, she used to make for me hot milk with honey. She sat by my bed and stroked my hair. That was the best medicine."
Paddy said that as a child: "I built a raft with Angelo and Maite from old boards and wood. Maite sowed a sail and I devised a pedal drive." At the time he had a garden too, where he grew garlic, parsley and potatoes and reared a goat named Heidi.
Between the age of 7 and 10, Paddy was a permanent guest in hospital. He said on interview that one time, Joey accidentally kicked him in the head and he had to have four stitches in his eyebrow, and once thrust a tin whistle into his mouth. It stabbed the roof of his mouth in a few centimetres, though very luckily did not reach the brain. But he worst injury, he tells, was when he foot got caught into some wheels. His siblings pulled him out, but his shoes was full of blood and his foot horrified him. They took his to hospital though he had to wear bandages for many long months. He still has the scars on his right foot.
The first song he ever write was called, 'Brenda my love' when he was very young, only about 7. He described it as going, "Brenda my love...Brenda my love...Brenda my love..." over and over. But she moved, and he never saw her again (though he says in the Crossroads DVD that she is currently in Egypt)
When Paddy was a teenager, his favourite band was Pearl Jam. He was only 15 when he wrote 'An Angel' (which you can watch below) the Kellys breakthrouhg song and no.1 song. He said it was about a dream he had.
He learnt to play guitar, bass guitar, tin whistle, Irish flute, keyboards and percussion.
As well as Kathy, Paddy soon became the musical leader of the family, mixing the recordings and introducing them on stage.
He wrote the Hit single 'An Angel' at only 15, though he said that really he would like to have his own talk show where they would interview normal people, because every human has something interesting to tell.
Paddy entered a monastery. He told why at his concert in Medjugorje, his first concert since joining the monastery. He said: "I came around to tell you a true story about a boy, who was aloud to enjoy large for many years, being a celebrity by the music. But this has made him finally not happy at all. It was so bad that, when he noticed it made him so unhappy, he would not live further any more, he wanted rather to die than live any further like this.
But in the face of death one time a change happened. The young man left the window and cried much. There was a God and that gave him hope, which he used. He began to read the bible. Every day he was reading a few pages of the bible.
One day the boy met a priest. The discussion with the dedicated man aroused in him desire for the confession. In the past he had done thibgs which he wanted to repent. That was the first time that he thought he might like to become a priest.
"This simple deeply peace" in its heart. He felt a discrete presence of someone else. The young man was baptised, but he did not know the fact that humans can be in contact with God and can personally connect with him.
In the same evening he decided to give his life a new chance, no more after its own ideas but to look for the will of God in everything. He bought a Rosary and began to pray. First this young man began with three pearls a day but years later it were three Rosarys a day.
In the summer of 2000 the whole Kelly Family went to Medjugoje. They looked for assistance for ill members of the family. They became acquainted with P. Jozo Zovko and could by its assistance a deep experience conversion to God. After that the young man went to the vapours of the community og the Hi Johannes to Rome. There he went kneeling through the Basilika of the Hi. Petrus. He did not that where it would lead him.
He visited ever more frequently and learnt then what a Christian is, with which holy ones to regard had. Ever more placed itself with the question about the appointment to priesthood. After he experienced this unconditional love, the person, the answer to all his questions is, felt themselves his infinately attraction, ever more united with him too loving.
He visited again and again and one day it passed: "here in the church after hl. fair he has felt his internal conviction, the fact that he must give his life to God in a more radical way.
His girlfriend at the time said to him, "If you are happier with Jesus, then go." There the one man saw that his love was pure, because he was more worried over Jesus than his own luck.
The victim was not any more his own victim. They have their love up-sacrificed for a larger love."
His family said that they havent seen him as happy in a long time.
Paddy was once arrested in 2003, for protesting against the war in Iraq in New York. He said its ok if he gets arrested for that, because he says that if you believe, you can't just say you believe, you have to act.
In 2004, Paddy took part in the foundation of 'light for the world' which gives blind people hope to retain their eyesight.
