Kathy was born on the 6th March 1963 as the 3rd child of Dan and Joanne, and the eldest in the band.
She was only 3 years old when the family moved to Spain, and she recalls their arrival. "When we saw the Spanish villiage for the first time, there sat the old women dressed in black and we thought that that would a be wicked witch."
At the age of nine she was taught to play the violin and piano by one of the most reputable teachers of the conservatories in Pamplona and Madrid.
She she was 15, her father decided that they should make a living as road musicians. Private music making changed to professional, it became our source of income and from then they daily played in the streets all over Europe.
Besides that she had taken ballet lessons as a child. Although she graduated as a prim ballerina, music played a more important role in her life.
When Kathy was 16 years old, she helped with the mixing of the recordings and soon after started to write her own songs. For the longest time she was the musical head of the band, producing the albums with their father and later with Paddy.
She was only 19 years old when her step mother Barbera Ann died, and being the eldest looked after the rest of her siblings.
In 1986, Kathy fell in love with a french man named Vincent. "He then studied philosphy and economics. He is so different from me, a rather quiet type. That i need to compensate, because I myself am always energized." They married in 1990.
On 14th December 1992 their son was born, Sean.
In 1999 she released a "Best Of Kathy Kelly" album which indicated her plans on starting a solo career. In fact soon after she dropped out of the band, on the one hand to spend more time with her son Sean, and on the other hand to go into a different direction with her music.
Two years later, in 2001, Kathy's solo album "Morning Of My Life" was released. Since then she worked with different musicians and played many concerts of her own. But every once in a while she still supports her siblings on stage.
